Tajín margarita.

Tajín Margarita

This Tajín margarita is perfectly sweet and spicy, has both pineapple and mango flavors, and is a little smoky from some mezcal!

Ingredients

  • honey for rimming glass
  • Tajín for rimming glass
  • chile pepper sliced, for muddling (I use 4-6 small slices, use less or omit if concerned about spice)
  • 2 ounces mezcal
  • 3 ounces silver tequila
  • 1 ounce Cointreau
  • 2 ounces simple syrup
  • 2 ounces pineapple juice
  • 2 ounces pureed mango (see note)
  • 2 ounces lime juice (juice of about 2 limes)
  • dried lime slices sprinkled with Tajín, for garnish, optional

Instructions

  • Add honey to a small plate and Tajín to another small plate. Dip rims of cocktail or margarita glasses first in honey, then in Tajin. Set aside.
    honey, Tajín
  • Add chile pepper slices to cocktail shaker and muddle them with the back of a wooden spoon. Add ice to cocktail shaker, then the mezcal, tequila, Cointreau, simple syrup, pineapple juice, pureed mango, and lime juice.
chile pepper, 2 ounces mezcal, 3 ounces silver tequila, 1 ounce Cointreau, 2 ounces simple syrup, 2 ounces pineapple juice, 2 ounces pureed mango, 2 ounces lime juice
  • Shake for 20 seconds then strain into prepared glasses filled with ice. Top with lime slices and additional Tajín if desired.
    dried lime slices

Notes

The chile peppers vary in heat level so if you are concerned about the margarita being too spicy then I recommend starting with fewer slices and adding more to the finished drinks if needed!
My favorite way to make mango puree is to blend up thawed frozen mango chunks until smooth, but you can also purchase mango puree if preferred!
