Ingredients for these Hot Honey Salmon Bowls
This hot honey salmon recipe with rice has a simple list of ingredients that should be easy to find in stores!
- Honey - Of course! The base for the hot honey glaze for the salmon. I just use regular honey from the grocery store.
- Sesame oil - Adds a nice extra flavor punch, but olive oil also works.
- Rice vinegar - Adds some acidity to the hot honey sauce and also is used to quickly pickle some cucumber slices!
- Sriracha - Adds heat to the hot honey in addition to crushed red pepper. For extra spice, you can double the amount of sriracha. As a substitute hot sauce works well.
- Lime juice - Pairs so well with the hot honey flavor and other ingredients in the bowl.
- Garlic powder, crushed red pepper, kosher salt - Seasonings for the salmon and hot honey sauce. The crushed red pepper flakes gives that classic hot honey flavor and the garlic powder and salt make this dish perfectly flavorful!
- Salmon filets - I recommend a 6-8 ounce filet per person, and if you can only find a larger piece at the store you can just cut it up into equal amounts for each bowl!
- Persian cucumbers - The perfect smaller cucumbers for a quick-pickle. Other types of cucumbers work as well!
- Success Boil-in-Bag Basmati Rice - The most delicious, aromatic, long-grain rice that's ready in just 10 minutes and has the best subtle nutty flavor.
- Avocado - Diced avocado adds the perfect creamy addition to this hot bowl!
- Edamame - I like to buy the preshelled kind if I can find them, otherwise the whole ones work great if you don't mind a little patience to shell them!
- Cilantro, chopped scallions, lime juice, sesame seeds - The best garnishes! Choose whichever you like best.
- Spicy mayo - Homemade or store-bought works!

Step by Step Instructions
This is a super easy recipe that's ready in just 30 minutes!
Step 1: Preheat the oven and prepare the sauce. Preheat the oven to 425°F. In a small bowl, whisk together all hot honey salmon ingredients (except the salmon) until smooth.
Step 2: Bake the salmon. Line a baking dish with parchment paper and add salmon filets skin-side down. Pour the sauce over the filets. Bake for 4 minutes, baste the salmon with the sauce, then bake for another 4 minutes. Baste again then broil until golden and cooked through to your liking. Remove from oven.
Step 3: Pickle the cucumber. Meanwhile, add the sliced cucumber and rice vinegar to a small bowl to pickle.
Step 4: Prepare the rice. Prepare the Success Boil-in-Bag Basmati Rice according to package directions and set aside.
Step 5: Assemble the bowls. Divide the prepared Success Boil-in-Bag Basmati Rice between 2 bowls, then top each with a piece of the hot honey salmon, some pickled cucumber, diced avocado, and the edamame. Garnish each with cilantro, chopped scallions, lime juice, and sesame seeds. Drizzle with leftover hot honey sauce and spicy mayo.
Pro Tip!
I recommend using a baking dish that keeps the salmon secure instead of a large sheet pan. This helps ensure the sauce doesn't run all over the baking sheet, and it makes it super easy to baste the salmon with the sauce as it bakes.
Tips for Making this Hot Honey Salmon with Rice
- Don't skip the Success Boil-in-Bag Basmati Rice! It's such a versatile grain that makes these salmon bowls extra easy and delicious.
- When baking the salmon, I definitely recommend finishing it under the broiler. When heated, the honey thins out, so broiling it helps to create a sticky sauce and helps the top of the salmon become golden!
- For best results, try and find the best quality fresh ingredients you can for the toppings and garnishes! They will make this fresh bowl with spicy salmon extra nutritious and satisfying.
FAQs
Yes! If you want to cook the salmon in bite-sized pieces, you can do so in the same way, the cooking time will just need to be reduced. For crispy salmon bites you can still broil them to finish them.
I think a simple kale salad would be the perfect accompaniment!
Definitely! You can remove it before baking if you like, or once the salmon is cooked you can use a thin fish spatula to scoot in between the fish and skin to remove just the fish from the baking dish.
Storing and Freezing
These bowls are a great make-ahead option, just be sure to wait to add on the avocado (so it doesn't brown) and the spicy mayo. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. To reheat, I recommend separating out the rice and salmon, reheating, then combining back with the fresh ingredients.
I don't recommend freezing any components of these bowls.
