Ingredients for this Recipe
This mocktail has a very short list of simple ingredients that you shouldn't have trouble finding in stores!
- Pink salt, sugar, and grapefruit zest - Make for the prettiest rim that pairs so well with the flavors! If you can't find pink salt regular sea salt works just fine. I recommend not skipping the sugar as just salt might be too overpowering. For the grapefruit zest, I find it easiest to use a microplane to finely zest one before you juice it.
- Frozen strawberries - Any brand works, and I prefer buying the whole ones but I believe sliced would also work. Just make sure not to thaw them before blending them as you don't want the drink to be too thin. I have not tried freezing fresh strawberries so I would not recommend it, but if you try it please let us know in the comments how it worked!
- Grapefruit juice - Make sure to use fresh grapefruit juice. You'll probably need about 2 (maybe 1 if it's a juicy one!) grapefruit to get 8 ounces. I know that may sound like a lot but the zesty flavor pairs so well with the sweet and mild strawberries. If you can't have grapefruit juice some fresh limes would be a great substitute.
- Water - Just a little bit of water to help make this drink the perfect pourable consistency.
- Simple syrup - This is optional, but I find that sometimes the frozen strawberries aren't that sweet. You can use homemade or store-bought simple syrup, and a good substitute for this would be honey or maple syrup. If you want to skip any added sugar you could leave the simple syrup out, it will just be a more tart drink.
- Seltzer water - Grapefruit flavored seltzer is best if you can find it, but plain works great also! If you don't mind their slightly stronger flavor, tonic water or club soda definitely work.
- Strawberry and grapefruit slices - If you have fresh strawberries then some strawberry slices work as a great garnish, but if not it will still taste great! Fresh mint leaves or fresh basil leaves would be perfect herb garnishes.

Step by Step Instructions
This is a very quick beverage recipe that's ready in just 3 easy steps.
Step 1: Prepare the glasses. Combine some pink salt, sugar, and grapefruit zest on a small plate, using your fingers to work the zest into the salt and sugar. Use a grapefruit peel or some simple syrup to wet part of the rim of your glasses, then press them into the pink salt mix. Set aside.
Step 2: Blend the drink. Add frozen strawberries, grapefruit juice, water, and simple syrup to a blender and puree until smooth.
Step 3: Finish the drinks. Divide the strawberry mix between the rimmed drink glasses and top each with a splash of seltzer. Garnish with strawberry and grapefruit slices.
Tips for Making this Sparkling Strawberry Mocktail
- Don't let the strawberries thaw before blending them as the drink will be too thin. If they're getting stuck in the bottom of your blender you can shut the blender off and use the bottom of a wooden spoon to dislodge them, then continue blending. Sometimes it takes me a few rounds before they blend completely but they will eventually be smooth!
- I definitely recommend using both salt and sugar on the grapefruit zest rim as the salt pairs so well with the strawberry flavor and gives the drink a frozen virgin margarita vibe!
- You can definitely double or triple the recipe to make this a great batch mocktail for a group!
FAQs
Nope! As long as your strawberries are nice and frozen then you won't need any ice, which is so nice so you don't have to remember to freeze any!
These are similar to strawberry daiquiri mocktails but with grapefruit juice in place of fresh lime juice or lemon juice!
I think vodka or a white rum would pair well with the other ingredients.
Storing and Freezing
Any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the freezer, and when you're ready to serve defrost them at room temperature until pourable.
